2011 Watchtower publisher statistics with analysis

the 2012 yearbook has released the publisher statistics for the 2011 service year.

a scan of the report can be found at http://www.jwfacts.com/images/2011-publisher-report.pdf and i have started updating the graphs at http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/statistics.php.

as expected, it is following on from similar trends to the last 15 years.

i could see they were jws...i prayed & asked they would call here... but no!!!!

Illustration, metaphors and similes - and why I don't like them

the watchtower is big on illustrations, allegedly because jesus was.

i think they can enable people to pretend that they're thinking about a subject when they're really not.

in combatting cult mind control, steve hassan made reference to how the moonies would brand any difference between members as a 'cain/abel' problem and this acted as a thought stopper.. here are two metaphors i see used to support different sides of the same argument here:.

The Watchtower is big on illustrations, allegedly because Jesus was. I think they can enable people to pretend that they're thinking about a subject when they're really not. In Combatting Cult Mind Control, Steve Hassan made reference to how the Moonies would brand any difference between members as a 'Cain/Abel' problem and this acted as a thought stopper.

Here are two metaphors I see used to support different sides of the same argument here:

Some theist ex JWs claim that those who become atheists have 'thrown the baby out with the bath water'
Some atheist ex JWs claim that those who retain a belief in God have 'found the key to the cage but not left the zoo'

Ding dong with 4 JWs this morning

the jws were out in our area this morning and i bolted downstairs before my wife could waive them away as she normally does.. two ladies (mum and 24 year old daughter i later found out) initially stopped as i opened with a comment about how i couldn't trust a thing they say because they are taught to practice theocratic warfare.. the mother blinked and asked me what that was ( so it began ) i informed them both that they are allowed to lie or at least be evasive with the truth with worldy people.

she countered that they are taught not to lie so i again asked her if she knew what theocratic warfare meant and she again said no (first of my many - 'please go look that up' statements .).

i then moved onto the idea that they couldn't think independently outside the organisation due to fear of being disfellowshipped and shunned.
